Hello 7th Graders! And Parents of 7th Graders. And anyone else who looks at this. You'll notice that the last entry for this classroom blog was from last year! That's because I'm trying out Google Classroom this year. So, all the kids have gotten the access code to join the classroom, and most of them have already done so. This is just an FYI to let you know why there is no new information on this site.
Hey 9th Graders!
I hope you guys had a nice Spring Break. :) So, here's the skinny for this week...we started before Spring Break, but we're going to finish talking about the Great Depression and the New Deal. You'll have an exam on the material on Friday. One essay question on the Great Depression...and one essay question on the New Deal. I'll tell you what I ant on the exam...you'll study and make a good grade...and I will be happy. It will be awesome. :) Have the answers to the questions on Page 165 (1-10) done by Tuesday! I'll pick them up at the beginning of class. Remember to write the questions, as well as the answers. And be sure to give me good answers to the questions...we talked about this in class. Weak answers get poor grades. So, we'll talk about the Great Depression in New Mexico on Monday and the New Deal on Tuesday. We'll take a look at your CF Notebook on Thursday and I'll give you a quiz ((a little studying might be a good idea!) and I'll give you the last batch of Critical Facts. On Friday, we'll take the test on the material in Chapter 5. And that's the plans for the week... Next week is PARCC Testing! You guys are going to rock on that one as well, I just feel it. Time flies, and there's not nearly as much time as you might think left in the quarter! It will go faster than you think it will.... Hey 9th graders!
So, we'll START talking about the great Depression and the New deal this week, but we won't finish. That pesky Spring break is going to come through and spoil our fun. Sigh....I know, I know....it's terrible that they MAKE us go home for some stupid Spring break Holiday. We ought to complain about it, that's what we ought to do! I say we just all come to school anyway! Who's with me?? Hello? Anyone? All right then, so i guess we stay home after all. ;) There's a couple of grades this week....I'm going to want to see Questions 1-10, on page 165, completed by the end of the week (read that as Thursday). You will have some class time to work on this, but anything you don't finish in class is homework. Homework that will be due. Due by Thursday. Don't wait till Friday. Do it by Thursday. Because that's when it's due. On Thursday. Do we get this? Also on Thursday, I'll want to see your Critical Facts Notebook. You should have up to 70-something or another. I'll give you a quick quiz on your critical facts Thursday, up to and including the chapter 5 information! Hey 9th graders!
So, here's what's going on, in case you missed it! Monday we had kind of Socratic seminar that covered some of the things in the chapter. I thought it was a pretty interesting conversation, and though we did sort of go a little afield from the chapter material it was definitely worth it. You have two tests this week, and the class decided to have the QCFT4 on Wednesday, and the Chapter 4 exam on Thursday. Fair enough. Remember, the QCFT doesn't count as a grade but the highest scoring class gets something cool. Whatever your score is, it should be higher than it was last time. The data should be interesting to look at! You should have 1-59 in your notebook, 9th graders. If I don't check it this week I'll surely check it next week, so get caught up if you aren't! I'll give you the next batch, up to 70-something this week. For the chapter 4 exam....know the key facts about Prohibition...know about women's suffrage...know about some of the civil rights issues that existed in NM in the 1920s...and know about the Teapot Dome Scandal. Remember, this is an open-note test (which I very rarely give) so be prepared! I'm expecting a lot of good grades. Hey 9th Graders!
So, the Quarter 3 project is due this week. We'll check the project for completion on Monday, and start presenting. Remember, we don't have school on Tuesday, so you'll stay home and we'll pick up the presentations again on Wednesday. I'm not sure how long it will take to get all the projects presented. I'm planning on presenting all week, but we might finish up early. We'll just sort of play it by ear. Actually i have some ideas about your Quarter 4 project that I want to run by you. I'd like to do something I haven't done before and I'll see what you think about it. I'm looking forward to some of your presentations this week! Remember, not everyone has to present, but those that choose to will get a pretty good Grade Bonus. And some of you out there....could use a pretty good grade bonus. ;) Hello 9th grade students and/or parents!
Here’s what’s going on this week. Monday – We’re starting chapter 4 in the text. It’s about the 1920’s, specifically dealing with Minority Rights, Prohibition, and the Teapot Dome Scandal. On Monday we talked about segregation and Jim Crown Laws, and we looked at a couple short Media clips to go along with our discussion. I assigned Pg. 123 (1-4) to the students, and it’s due tomorrow (Tuesday!) It’s only four questions, but I want good answers. Tuesday – So, we’ll pick up Pg. 123 (1-4) and discuss the information. I’ll assign Pg. 123 (5-8), which will be due on Thursday! The students should have some time in class to work on their assignment, but if they don’t finish, it’s home work. Wednesday – Peer Learning Groups, Day 1. I have decided to let the students break into groups and teach each other about the chapter. There will be a group on Suffrage, on Civil Rights, on Prohibition, and on the Teapot Dome Scandal. Each student will be assigned to a particular group, research the material, develop a lesson plan,, and provide instruction to their peers. Thursday – Peer Learning Groups, Day 2. What do we need to know, and how are we going to teach it? How do we measure what the students have learned? These questions are going to be addressed as the students continue to develop their lesson plans. Friday -- Q3 Project work day! This is the 2nd, and last, day in class the students will have to work on their Q3 Projects. The Project itself is due next Monday! Remember, if a refresher is needed on the specific requirements, the rubric is on the website! I’m looking forward to seeing some of the presentations next week. Hey 9th graders! Here's what's going on this week...
Monday – President’s Day! No School. Tuesday – We will discuss the information in the latter half of Chapter Three. I’ll show some short videos at the end of the discussion, pertaining to Route 66 and some Modern Dude Ranches. It’ll be a hoot! Wednesday – On Wednesday we’ll check the CF Notebook (there should be 58 Critical Facts in the Notebook!) and I’ll give the kids a test on the Critical Facts Chapters 1-3. I’ll go over the main ideas of the Chapter Three exam and if there’s any time left we’ll touch base on the Q3 project. Thursday – Review game for the Chapter Three Exam! It should be fun. And, as always, to the victors go the spoils! (Mmm….delicious spoils…) Friday – The kids will take the Chapter Three Exam. On another note…remember that the Quarter 3 projects are due on Feb. 29th! The students have had one work day, and they will have another one next week. You might want to touch base on how they are doing. It would be best to NOT wait till the very last second to try to write a paper…. Hey all....here's a copy of the rubric for the Quarter Three Project. Remember, it's due on the 29th of February!
Hey there. So here's a copy of the Prohibition DBQ that we analyzed in class! Remember, you have to write an in-class essay using these documents tomorrow, so i'd like to see all the questions answered!
Helllooooo 9th grade parents and students!
So, here’s the plans for the next TWO weeks! Week 1 (2/1/16 – 2/5/16) Monday – We’ll check the CF Notebook. The students should have 28 Critical Facts in their notebook so far, although I’m giving them the next batch this week sometime. We’ll also take a quick quiz on the Critical Facts you already have in the notebook. Remember, if you aren’t doing as well on these quizzes as you want to, then take a few minutes in the evening and learn them! I’m going to want the students to know all 100 by the end of their time with me. Lastly, on Monday, we’ll talk about the Quarter 3 Project. I need the students to decide if they are doing individual or group projects, and the topic they choose. If the students don’t have a topic by the end of this week, I’ll simply assign one to them. Tuesday – All right, this will be the 2nd Quarterly Critical Facts Test. It’s over all 100 of the Critical Facts. Remember, if doesn’t count as a grade, so don’t freak out about it! I just want the data. However, the winning class gets ice-cream…so maybe a little studying wouldn’t hurt…just sayin’. Wednesday – The students will get their first DBQ. That stands for “Document Based Question”. When a student takes an AP exam in History or Government, they will definitely need to know how to complete one of these, so I thought it would behoove us to work on it a little bit. Thursday – We’ll take a look at the primary source documents in our DBQ Packet and analyze them. There are some questions attached to the end of each document, and the student will be required to answer those questions and use the documents in their final essay. Friday – The students will come in, and use their DBQ Packets, along with the analysis they did of the primary source documents, to write a short essay that answers the DBQ. They will have the whole class period, and the essay is due at the end of class, finished or not! Week 2 (2/8/12 – 2/12/16) Monday – We’re going to start Chapter 3. It’s going to be awesome! Artists, Authors, Lungers, and Dudes! What does that even MEAN?? Let’s find out. The students will get a guided reading worksheet (GR3-1) which will be due on Wednesday. Tuesday – Mathis is OUT! Off to Albuquerque to a training. So, I’ll give this day as a work day for the 9th graders. They can work on GR3-1 or GR3-2 (if they finish the first one. GR3-2 will be due on Friday. Wednesday – Mathis is BACK!! GR3-1 is Due! We’ll go over the information in class. There will be notes taken! It will be awesome! Thursday – Mathis is OUT…AGAIN!! Off to a chess Tournament with the ever-optimistic ATC Chess team. So, on Thursday, I’m giving the 9th graders the day to work on their Quarter 3 Project. They’ll have the rubric by then. They can work on their graphic element, their research and Bibliography, or their Paper. I’ll have some computers in the classroom. Friday – Mathis is BACK…AGAIN!! GR3-2 is Due! We’ll talk about Tuberculosis, and Dude Ranches, and Route 66! It’ll be awesome! |
