Hello 9th grade students and/or parents!
Here’s what’s going on this week.
Monday – We’re starting chapter 4 in the text. It’s about the 1920’s, specifically dealing with Minority Rights, Prohibition, and the Teapot Dome Scandal. On Monday we talked about segregation and Jim Crown Laws, and we looked at a couple short Media clips to go along with our discussion. I assigned Pg. 123 (1-4) to the students, and it’s due tomorrow (Tuesday!) It’s only four questions, but I want good answers.
Tuesday – So, we’ll pick up Pg. 123 (1-4) and discuss the information. I’ll assign Pg. 123 (5-8), which will be due on Thursday! The students should have some time in class to work on their assignment, but if they don’t finish, it’s home work.
Wednesday – Peer Learning Groups, Day 1. I have decided to let the students break into groups and teach each other about the chapter. There will be a group on Suffrage, on Civil Rights, on Prohibition, and on the Teapot Dome Scandal. Each student will be assigned to a particular group, research the material, develop a lesson plan,, and provide instruction to their peers.
Thursday – Peer Learning Groups, Day 2. What do we need to know, and how are we going to teach it? How do we measure what the students have learned? These questions are going to be addressed as the students continue to develop their lesson plans.
Friday -- Q3 Project work day! This is the 2nd, and last, day in class the students will have to work on their Q3 Projects. The Project itself is due next Monday! Remember, if a refresher is needed on the specific requirements, the rubric is on the website! I’m looking forward to seeing some of the presentations next week.
