Helllooooo 9th grade parents and students!
So, here’s the plans for the next TWO weeks!
Week 1 (2/1/16 – 2/5/16)
Monday – We’ll check the CF Notebook. The students should have 28 Critical Facts in their notebook so far, although I’m giving them the next batch this week sometime. We’ll also take a quick quiz on the Critical Facts you already have in the notebook. Remember, if you aren’t doing as well on these quizzes as you want to, then take a few minutes in the evening and learn them! I’m going to want the students to know all 100 by the end of their time with me. Lastly, on Monday, we’ll talk about the Quarter 3 Project. I need the students to decide if they are doing individual or group projects, and the topic they choose. If the students don’t have a topic by the end of this week, I’ll simply assign one to them.
Tuesday – All right, this will be the 2nd Quarterly Critical Facts Test. It’s over all 100 of the Critical Facts. Remember, if doesn’t count as a grade, so don’t freak out about it! I just want the data. However, the winning class gets ice-cream…so maybe a little studying wouldn’t hurt…just sayin’.
Wednesday – The students will get their first DBQ. That stands for “Document Based Question”. When a student takes an AP exam in History or Government, they will definitely need to know how to complete one of these, so I thought it would behoove us to work on it a little bit.
Thursday – We’ll take a look at the primary source documents in our DBQ Packet and analyze them. There are some questions attached to the end of each document, and the student will be required to answer those questions and use the documents in their final essay.
Friday – The students will come in, and use their DBQ Packets, along with the analysis they did of the primary source documents, to write a short essay that answers the DBQ. They will have the whole class period, and the essay is due at the end of class, finished or not!
Week 2 (2/8/12 – 2/12/16)
Monday – We’re going to start Chapter 3. It’s going to be awesome! Artists, Authors, Lungers, and Dudes! What does that even MEAN?? Let’s find out. The students will get a guided reading worksheet (GR3-1) which will be due on Wednesday.
Tuesday – Mathis is OUT! Off to Albuquerque to a training. So, I’ll give this day as a work day for the 9th graders. They can work on GR3-1 or GR3-2 (if they finish the first one. GR3-2 will be due on Friday.
Wednesday – Mathis is BACK!! GR3-1 is Due! We’ll go over the information in class. There will be notes taken! It will be awesome!
Thursday – Mathis is OUT…AGAIN!! Off to a chess Tournament with the ever-optimistic ATC Chess team. So, on Thursday, I’m giving the 9th graders the day to work on their Quarter 3 Project. They’ll have the rubric by then. They can work on their graphic element, their research and Bibliography, or their Paper. I’ll have some computers in the classroom.
Friday – Mathis is BACK…AGAIN!! GR3-2 is Due! We’ll talk about Tuberculosis, and Dude Ranches, and Route 66! It’ll be awesome!
